SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – You can count Mike Hearty as one of the many OSCAAR Modified Tour regulars eager to return to Jukasa Motor Speedway this Saturday for their chance to add a win at ‘Canada’s Crown Jewel’ to their legacy.
For Hearty, a low-dollar racer that has filled the role of ‘underdog’ for much of his career, there could be no grander stage than Jukasa and there could no no greater opportunity to shock and awe than if the Sault Ste. Marie, ON native could capture his first career OSCAAR victory at the lauded Hagersville, ON speedplant.
“I’d drive clear across the country to race at Jukasa,” beams Hearty. “That place is amazing. It might be the most fun speedway I’ve ever been to in my life. We’ll be there with every intention of winning. We wouldn’t put this car in the box if we didn’t think we had a chance to come out there and surprise a couple people.”
Since moving to the Open Wheel Modified division after an extended tenure in a Super Stock, Hearty has weathered the ups-and-downs of racing on tour and is ready to finally take the next step towards contending on a weekly basis.
“Nobody believes in our team as much as we do,” says the Sault Ste. Marie, ON driver. “We’re ready for that breakthrough moment to happen. And, we know it’s coming, because we work way too hard for it not to. The hours are there. The research is there. Now, we just need a little bit of luck.”
This Saturday, if Hearty can pull off a head-turning victory, there’s no question as to how long his family-owned team would celebrate.
“This roster is as good as it’s been in a long time and wins have never been as hard to come by as they are right now. We understand that. We appreciate just what we’re up against and we would cherish a win more than any other team on this tour – I can guarantee you that.”
