GUELPH, ON – Ontario short track mainstay Tim Tolton will celebrate his 35th year of racing in 2018. The Black Magic Racing founder plans to split time with the OSCAAR Modified Tour this season, And the Lucas Oil Sportsman series.
“If you had told me on my first day at the speedway that I would still be going strong thirty-five years later I would have told you that you were nuts,” laughs Tolton. “It’s been an amazing career so far and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. This year, our team is definitely looking to celebrate by winning some races and getting out to our favourite speedways.”
Tolton has alternated recent seasons between campaigning his team’s Mini Stock, Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series entry and Open Wheel Modified, but hopes to focus his efforts on 2018’s OSCAAR championship.
“We still want to race as much as we can – in more than one car – but right now the plan is to run for a championship in the [Open Wheel] Modified,” explains the veteran. “We’ll put as much time and effort as we can into that – and if we have opportunities on the side to bring out the Sportsman car then we absolutely will. It’s going to be a busy summer, for sure.”
Tolton’s Modified will also carry a special 35th anniversary scheme to commemorate the team’s milestone and hopes to find his new look in victory lane with regularity.
“We’re going back to the original scheme that our Late Models had years ago,” explains Tolton. “We won a lot of races with ‘35’ on the door – and we’re hoping that bringing back that look will be a sign of good luck for us.”
“The [OSCAAR] Modified tour has a lot of talent right now – and we understand what we’re up against,” continues the Guelph, ON native. “But I trust my team and I trust my equipment. I think we’ll have something for these guys once the season kicks off.”
