HILLSDALE, ON – Multi-time Ltd. Late Model feature winner Thayne Hallyburton will once again compete fulltime at Sunset Speedway in 2019.
‘The Hillsdale Hurricane’ took a hiatus from Sunset in 2018 in favour of a full slate at Sauble Speedway but plans to return this Summer to chase his first ever division championship.
“The number one reason we’re coming back to Sunset this year is to finally win a track championship,” explains Hallyburton.
“As a racer you don’t ever really know how many more chances you’re going to have to run a full season – so when you get the chance you need to make sure you do everything you can to make the most of it.”
“I don’t want our team to have to settle for anything less than a championship,” adds Hallyburton. “We’ve built up something that we’re all incredibly proud of and I know that our team is good enough to be in the conversation.”
And, although Hallyburton does not yet have a championship on his resume, the Hillsdale, ON native is far from willing to view his family-operated team as anything but a championship contender entering the 2019 campaign.
“There’s no question in my mind that we’re past the point of surprising people,” said Hallyburton. “We’ve shown again and again that we can compete in this division at a top level. We’ve paid our dues and we’ve won races against the best guys in the province.”
“We just need to find a way to put it all together and be consistent every single week. If we can shake off the bad luck and minimize our mistakes we’re going to have a legitimate chance of taking a run at the points.”
After years of showcasing regular improvement and compiling feature victories, Hallyburton is more than ready to take his program to the next level.
“When we show up on our game and prepared the way I know that we can prepare – we’re a handful for anyone on that roster to deal with. We can’t leave anything on the table this season. We’re going to compete every single lap and make something happen for this team.”
