PORT HOPE, ON – Second-generation racer Marlie Owen wasted no time turning heads during 2018 at Peterborough Speedway. On a weekly basis, the former Karting standout proved herself to be a prospect worthy of attention in the talent-laden Super Stock division, and now she has her sights set on kicking things up a notch in 2019.

“I’m not sure my team or my family could have been any happier with how our rookie season went,” says Owen with a smile. “This season was something I’ve been thinking about and waiting on for a long time – but it was still a huge step. I didn’t want to disappoint anyone and I wanted to make sure I made the most of the opportunity to be in a race car every Saturday.”

Owen hit the ground running with a top-5 finish in her first start of the 2018 campaign, quickly adding to her totals with a myriad of additional top-5s as well as her first career Super Stock feature win.

When the dust had settled, the Port Hope, ON racer was being heralded as one of the most exciting prospects in the province, a feat she credits to the teachings of her father – multi-time OSCAAR Super Late Model winner John Owen.

“I just tried to use everything he’s taught me,” says the personable teenager. “My Dad helped me every moment of this season. I couldn’t have done it without him. There’s no team without my Dad – so I really could never possibly thank him enough.”

“We put every possible hour into this car,” continues Owen. “There wasn’t a single night wasted. Once we found our rhythm with our setup package, it was exciting to see how much further I could take it. I felt like every Saturday I was showcasing a new side of my skill set.”

When asked how her family-run team intends to follow up their buzz-garnering 2018 season, Owen explains they’re ready for an even more aggressive schedule to help continue her development as one of Super Stock racing’s brightest young stars.

“The plan right now is to be back full-time at Peterborough (Speedway) racing for points,” says the up-and-comer. “But, on top of that, we’re really excited to get out to some different speedways and race against some of the competition that we don’t normally see from week to week.”

“I want to be able to say that I can race up front with the best teams in the province – and to do that we can’t just stay in the same place all season,” adds Owen. “Our goal is to get to some of the bigger races at Sunset, Sauble and Flamboro to see just where we stack up against their (Super Stock division) talent and to help us improve our program.”
