BARRIE, ON – After (2) NASCAR Whelen All-American Series starts of 2017, Super Stock sophomore Justin Holmes insists his family-owned team remains starkly focused on their task of establishing themselves as one of the elite units on the Sunset Speedway roster.

“In all honesty, the first few weeks have played out the way we thought they would,” admits Holmes. “This is a brand new car with a completely new setup. We’re still figuring things out. It’s a process”

“Picking up one inch at a time and getting faster lap-by-lap is all part of the game,” adds the second-generation competitor. “If it were easy – everyone would do it”

Holmes entered the 2017 campaign with a brand new chassis at his disposal – designed by none other than reigning Sunset Speedway NASCAR Late Model champion Gord Shepherd.

And, with every lap Holmes spends behind the wheel of his new acquisition, the more positive feedback he has for the HWY 400 Transmission-sponsored ride.

“The way this car is designed is something I fell in love with right from the first practice session ,” explains Holmes. “I feel like we can put this car anywhere we need to on this track. It’s strong on the top, its strong on the bottom, it rolls the center – it’s exactly what we’re looking for”

“It suits my style,” continues the Barrie, ON native. “I don’t mind throwing out a prediction that we’re going to win a lot of races in this car. I don’t think that’s a stretch to say that”

As the team prepares for a busy month of June, Holmes insists their commitment to excellence never ceases to amaze him.

“I still believe with all my heart that I have the absolute best team in the pits,” states the Mini Stock graduate matter-of-factly.

“These guys come to the shop every single night wanting to build a better program. They sign in at the back gate every Saturday wanting to beat every single car we’re lined up against. You can’t ever ask for more than that”

“We’ve got the car, the program and the team that everyone in this division needs to be worried about,” continues Holmes. “Once we hit our stride, you’re going to see just how high our ceiling is. We’re going to be a problem for everyone”

“It’s all about getting to where we need to be. We’re close now. We have the formula. We know what we need to do. This car is improving every single week and I’m improving with it.”
