Sunset Speedway Rookie of the Year Chris Allard Eager to Put Family-Run Team ‘On the Map’ With Velocity Win

ALLISTON, ON – Less than a week after winning the 2017 Sunset Speedway Super Stock Rookie of the Year, second-generation star Chris Allard already has his sights set on his next conquest – Sunset’s crown jewel Velocity 250 weekend ‪on September 23rd‬ and 24th.

“I’m hoping we see the best field in [Velocity 250] history,” says ‘Flight Time’. “A lot of these guys are drivers I’ve been watching and analyzing for as long as I’ve been coming to the speedway. I have all the respect in the world for these guys – but I need to see where we stack up next to them. It’s the only way we’re going to really learn and it’s the only way to move our program forward.”

And while the former Mini Stock standout is not quite a household name outside of his Sunset Speedway home, his family-owned outfit has been increasingly impressive through their freshman Super Stock campaign.

“I feel as though our team has gone about things the right way with building our program so far,” suggests Allard. “We never expected for one minute that we were just going to break into this division and drive straight to the front. My Dad warned me it was going to take work – but, we’ve put the time in – and it’s made us stronger as a unit. We’ve done our homework. And, because of that, I think we’re more than ready to run with anyone that comes out this weekend.”

“I don’t think we’ve shaken that ‘underdog’ label yet,” laughs the second-generation racer. “And, hey, that’s more than fine with me. If we put this thing up front at [the Velocity] it can be a surprise to anyone that didn’t ride to the speedway with us. This is the sort’ve weekend that puts you on the map. This is one of those events you can build a name off of.”

Like many other drivers, Allard sees the Velocity weekend as a ticket towards superstardom, which will no doubt serve as motivation when he lines up against well over 30 of Ontario’s elite Super Stock talent.

“I want to be a team that everyone knows one day,” says Allard. “We all know what we’re capable of. We just need to show the rest of these guys. All the best teams are going to be there this weekend and everyone wants to win this race. So, we’re coming out to put the [number] 76 on the podium and walk out with a few more people knowing our name.”
