Streaking Dustyn Mombourquette Hoping to Continue Recent Success during Double Feature Event on Saturday

Dustyn Mombourquette
BARRIE, ON – Sunset Speedway rising star Dustyn Mombourquette has had a fantastic first half to his 2017 season. After debuting a brand new race car at the beginning of the season, the second-generation racer has tallied a number of top-10’s and top-5’s as he works to generate much-needed momentum in the often crowded Super Stock division.

Most recently, Mombourquette earned a 6th place finish in Sunset’s July 22nd event, and hopes to return to action on July 29th with an equally impressive performance.

‘’Our team has been moving forward every weekend,’’ says Mombourquette. ‘’We might be a little more quiet than some of the other guys in the division, but we’re stronger every race”.

“I’d like to think that we’ve been a lot better than people have realized all year. Our goal, right from the spring, was to be better each Saturday than we were the week before – and we’ve definitely been able to accomplish that”.

The soft-spoken teenager has credited his Super Stock opposition for aiding in his recent breakthrough.

‘’Nights like last Saturday show us how far we’ve really come,’’ offers the second-generation wheelman. ‘’This division is so loaded with talent that any amount of laps you get in here is going to make you better. You can learn from anyone here as long as you’re paying attention”.

“So, yeah, my first two years I was coming out and scrapping just to finish in the top-15 – but it was a good thing. It made me stronger. Now, we’re moving into that next category as a team, where we can run with some of the best guys on the roster every single night”.

This Saturday, Mombourquette will have a pair of opportunities to secure his first career division win, however the level-headed racer is more than willing to set his sights on goals he envisions as achievable entering July 29th’s double-feature event.

‘’Two top-10 finishes is what we’re expecting out of ourselves on Saturday,’’ says the Barrie, ON native matter-of-factly. “That’s what needs to happen. That’s what we’re capable of. But, two top-5s would be outstanding. We’re looking at that like it’s a best case scenario. If we can just keep our head on straight and make the right decisions at the right time, we can surprise some people”.
