HAMILTON, ON – Division veteran Steve Ecker will compete fulltime at Sauble Speedway in 2018, in search of a first career Super Stock track championship.
“We’ve spent our entire off-season putting together the pieces for a strong 2018 – and it’s all real close to becoming a reality,” says Ecker.
“It’s been a lot of hours and more work than I could ever have imagined, but I really believe that we have a program that can come out and compete with some of the best in this division. If we come back with less than a track championship – I can promise it won’t be for a lack of trying.”
Ecker is quick to compliment the depth of Sauble’s talent pool, but insists that his experience and hands-on knowledge of his low-budget effort will provide him with the edge necessary to contend with the elite of the division.
“This Super Stock class is loaded with good cars from top to bottom,” says the Hamilton, ON native. “The level of competition right now is almost unrivalled. It’s as good of a test as you’re going to find anywhere.”
“I’m real comfortable with our program,” adds Ecker. “We have a car that we’ve gone through from end to end all off-season – and that’s given us a lot of familiarity. We absolutely aren’t going to have the biggest budget on the roster, but we’re willing to put in the time and the hard work that other guys aren’t.”
Still, despite his knowledge, experience and work ethic, Ecker knows that his team will be in for a battle each time they roll through the Sauble Speedway gates.
“When you have a roster as strong as this one, you have to know that nothing is going to be given to you,” says Ecker. “We just want to keep moving our program forward. If we can keep finishing up front and keep our car on the track – we’re going to have a chance to compete for that championship.”
“Every position that we’re going to gain on-track is progress. That’s how we’re looking at 2018. This is a great speedway with a great division and a great roster – and I’m happy we’re a part of it. We’re coming with our best stuff, because I know every other team in that pit area is going to be doing the same thing.”
