GUELPH, ON – After fashioning an impressive feature victory in Round 1 of the Sunset Speedway Mini Stock season back in May, Samantha Shaw has not yet made a return to the win column in 2018 – a streak that she very much intends to break this Saturday night.
“We’ve been getting this car faster every time it’s hit the speedway – so a second win is absolutely coming,” smiles the approachable third-generation racer. “I really believe that our car is even better now than it was when we won on Opening Night. I can’t thank my Dad and everyone else for all the time they’ve invested already this year.”
With one of the tightest rosters in the province, there’s no question that Shaw – or any other driver on the Sunset Mini Stock roster – has to be on her A-Game to have a hope of punching her ticket to victory lane.
“The entire nature of this division is how tight it is and how many different teams can win on any given night,” opines Shaw. “You can win one week and then be outside of the top-5 the next Saturday. It’s not easy to run at the front at Sunset.”
Shaw closes by noting just how rapidly the Mini Stock division continues to evolve at Sunset, as teams up and down the roster work to maximize their programs on a weekly basis.
“I’m constantly reminding myself that if we have a night where we’re a tiny bit behind the teams on the podium, it’s not necessarily because we’ve taken a step backwards,” explains the well-spoken Guelph, ON native.
“This Division is advancing and progressing all the time. Just because you’re up front one week doesn’t guarantee you anything. Every team is going home during the week to make sure their stuff is better next Saturday.”
