THORNTON, ON – With a victory in August 5th competition, Sunset Speedway fan favourite Ryan Semple kept his championship hopes alive as he continues to work to keep pace with current leader Jordan Howse in the race for each driver’s first career track title.
“This is what we’ve been talking about needing to do for a month,” smiled a relieved Semple upon clearing post-race inspection. “It’s one thing for us to sit and talk about chasing a championship and how we can make that happen and it’s something totally different to come out here and perform. I’m proud of my guys tonight. They helped me to do exactly what we needed to”
Semple has come close a number of times already this season, however Saturday’s triumph marked his first of the 2017 campaign. Now, with an all important win in his pocket, Semple and his Auto Trim of Barrie-backed team have some much-needed confidence entering the final 5 points-paying events of the season.
“Anytime you can come out, against this field of guys, and run up front you can tell yourself you’ve done something,” said the veteran.
“It’s an awesome feeling. Our car is performing better now than it has all year and a night like this reminds our team that we’re good enough to beat anyone at any time”
Semple entered August 5th with a 40-point gap separating him from the top of the standings. Now, with a much-needed win, ‘Kid Ruckus’ hopes to continue chipping away at that deficit over the course of the next month and a half.
“This is that time in the schedule where things get kinda serious,” laughed Semple. “It’s gut-check time if you really want to go after a championship”
“We can’t stumble once. We need to be on our game every time we leave the shop. That’s what we came here tonight for. That’s what we’re going to be out to do next Saturday and that’s our goal from now until the end of September.”
