THORNTON, ON – After having scored a feature victory and a runner-up finish in the 2017 Sunset Speedway Super Stock points standings, division staple Ryan Semple has announced his team has filed entry to contend for their first career Velocity 250 victory.
“Right now, I’m working with the best equipment I’ve ever had,” smiles Semple. “I’ve had an awesome career. I’ve made some great friends and I’ve had a ton of fun. But I’ve never had a car that works as well as this one is right now.”
“I can’t give enough credit to the team we have,” adds the young veteran. “They’ve worked their hearts out for this program this season. None of what we’ve done this season would have been possible without our team. I’m just the one that gets to come out on raceday and look like a hero.”
And after working through the grind of a four-month long regular season, Semple seems more than ready for a welcomed change of pace.
“This time of the year is always fun because you get to approach racing a lot different than you would during the regular season,” explains Semple in reference to Ontario’s ‘Playoff Season’. “We chased points at Sunset all season, which means every week you’re trying to think two or three races ahead. You’re trying to score as many points as you can. You want to conserve your stuff and get the most out of it at the same time.”
“The Playoffs are a lot simpler,” continues ‘Kid Ruckus’. “You roll into these events and there are no points on the line. You’re just trying to unload fast and get to the front of the field. Winning the race is all that matters and that’s the simplest concept you could ask for.”
With rumours swirling of Semple’s possible retirement at the end of season, there seems to be even more motivation for the Auto Trim of Barrie-sponsored team entering the September 23rd and 24th event.
“There’s no question that the Velocity would be the biggest win of my career,” says Semple. “It’s a huge event with a stacked field. That’s the sort’ve thing you remember for the rest of your life.”
“We’re going to be coming after this one with everything we have,” continues the fan favourite. “We still haven’t made up our mind as to what we’re doing next season. So, we want to make sure we do everything we can to get the win this weekend. Because it might be our last Velocity for awhile.”
