DUNDAS, ON – Divisional journeyman Rodney Rutherford has confirmed that his family-run team will hope to pursue the 2019 OSCAAR Hot Rod Series Rookie of the Year title.

Rutherford’s ability to run the full tour will be conditional upon sponsorship support, however the current plan is to tackle the entirety of the 11-race cross-province schedule.

“This is as excited for a season of racing as I’ve been in a really long time,” Said Rutherford. “We’ve been putting this car together for the better part of a year already and the fact that we’re staring down a full tour in it is awesome.”

“We’ve put in more hours than I could even keep track of to make sure that this car will be at its best for Opening Night,” continues the blue-collar veteran. “Our goal is to hit the ground running in Round 1 and do all that we can to improve every week and be in the mix for the rookie points at the end of the season.”

Rutherford – a longtime Flamboro Speedway regular – has recent experience in everything from Enduros to Pure Stocks and Mini Stocks. The commitment to an 11-race tour across Ontario will most definitely serve as his stiffest test to date.

“We’ve raced invitational events in the past in a few different divisions but this is the first time we’ve gone into a season with the plan of racing at a different speedway every weekend,” details the Dundas, ON native.

“It’s a huge step for us. There’s no question about it. Going out on the road and having to set up and adjust for different speedways is a serious test for our team – but I have no doubt that we can handle it.”

Rutherford has enlisted the help of respected fabricator Mike Westwood to convert the former Pro Late Model chassis to be OSCAAR Hot Rod Series legal and is confident that his new ride will provide him with ample opportunity to carve out a reputation for himself on the tour.

“There’s a whole lot of talent on this roster but I think we’ve built a package that can contend with them,” says Rutherford. “It’s going to take some time to figure out what works and what doesn’t. But, as long as we can build up our notebook then I believe we have a shot at doing something in this series.”

“I have a ton of respect for guys like Dan Archibald and Tyler Hawn for all of the races they’ve already won on this tour. They’ve set the bar real high. I’m looking forward to learning from them and then eventually testing myself against them – that’s exactly why our team has put this car together.”

Rodney Rutherford’s 2019 OSCAAR Hot Rod Series effort is made possible thanks to the support of Tru North Tire, Mike Westwood Fabrication and Jay’s Auto of Waterdown.
