OTTERVILLE, ON – Delaware Speedway Truck champion turned Super Stock up-and-comer Rick Verberne will look to make a splash during Saturday’s ‘Prelude to the Nationals’ event at Jukasa Motor Speedway.
Verberne – with the support from Wight Motorsports Inc. founder and proprietor Dave White – will be tasked with outrunning some of the top Super Stock competitors in the province with a provisional starting spot for the second annual Canadian Short Track Nationals hanging in the balance.
“We’ve been working with Dave Wight and WMI real closely to make sure that we unload with the best possible car this Saturday,” says Verberne. “This is one of those races that we’ve been preparing for all off-season. Racing at Jukasa is a huge honour and we want to make sure we don’t come with anything less than our best.”
“With Dave in my corner it wouldn’t matter where we pointed this hauler or what track we unloaded at – him being with us is enough to make me feel like we have a shot to contend,” adds the Otterville, ON native. “It won’t be easy but I believe in our team and the program we’ve built.”
The team will compete in a Delaware Speedway weekly show on Friday night before converting their setup overnight to prepare for Saturday’s Prelude to the Nationals at Jukasa.
“This show is all about having a real test in race trim against top competition before the (Canadian Short Track Nationals) in September,” offers Verberne. “Dave (Wight) won with Andrew Ranger in the (NASCAR Pinty’s Series) race at Jukasa earlier this month and we’ve been able to take some data from that to use for our package.”
“We have a ton of belief in this car and this team,” continues the personable journeyman. “If we can’t make it work on Saturday night I can promise that it won’t be for a lack of trying.”
Verberne anticipates a deep field of Super Stocks turning out for the 30-lap event, which is sure to provide an exciting challenge for the division sophomore and his Spark Power-sponsored outfit.
“I always jump at the chance to test our program against the elite of the division,” says Verberne. “At the end of the day, racing against the top guys in the only true gauge you’re going to get in terms of where you’re at as a competitor and what you need to do to make yourself better.”
“Jukasa has done an incredible job of hyping this race up and I’m sure it’s going to pay off for them with a huge field. Everybody wants to win at Jukasa – but the provisional for the ‘Nationals’ makes this weekend extra special. There’s a lot on the line.”
“A good purse and a lot of buzz is always going to attract some big names,” continues Verberne. “Our team can’t wait to see where we measure up against the guys that have become household names in this division.”
