ORO-MEDONTE, ON – Multi-time Limited Late Model feature winner Rick Spencer- Walt will enter this Saturday at Sunset Speedway with a commanding 25-point lead over the rest of the division with just two points-paying events left this season.
A former champion at both Peterborough Speedway and Sauble Speedway, Spencer-Walt committed to a full campaign at Sunset in 2019 intent on adding another major accolade to his rapidly expanding resume.
“We’ve done everything that we can to prove it at every speedway we’ve raced at. Sunset was the one that had sort’ve slipped through our fingers so we dedicated our 2019 to righting that wrong.”
Since joining Car Owner Eldon Wallis in 2015, Walt has routinely showcased new facets of his abilities behind the wheel, as he continues to mature and advance well into the upper echelon of the talent-heavy Limited Late Model division.
“Having the chance to work with Eldon and the team he built was the best thing that’s happened for my racing career,” details Walt. “From the moment we partnered up, it’s just felt like one year after the next things keep getting better. I thought last season, when we won the Sauble championship, it was the best my program was ever going to be. But then here we are – one year later and we’re event stronger.”
However, despite the fact that Walt’s advantage within the standings is relatively comfortable entering the penultimate night of the season, don’t expect him to unload with anything less than the intensity of a competitor chasing a first career track championship.
“We aren’t taking our foot off the gas at all – no matter what the standings say,” insists Walt. “Our job is to win races until there aren’t any more events left on the schedule. That’s it. So, no matter what the points say, I’m trying to come out and win every race that I enter.”
