ALCONA BEACH, ON – Fresh off of a yearlong hiatus from Super Stock competition, affable youngster Nick Tooler will be back for a fulltime effort at Sunset Speedway in 2018.
“We knew our team needed to step away and take a break in 2017,” explains Tooley. “It was time to regroup and clear our heads. It’s really hard to be on the grind and put together these 18-week seasons again and again and again. We feel better as a unit than we have in a long time because we took a year off.”
Tooley made an one-off appearance at Sunset’s year-end Velocity 250 weekend in late-September, Qualifying 3rd against some of the province’s top stars and offering a glimpse into what his small-budget team could have in store for their comeback.
“We were happy with how the car responded in September,” says the Alcona Beach, ON native. “The goal is to build off of that as soon as we hit the track on opening night. If we can find our rhythm and be competitive right out of the gate, it sets a perfect tempo for the rest of our season.”
“I can’t wait to be back racing again,” smiles Tooley. “I’m looking forward to seeing just where we stack up against the rest of these teams. We’ve only been gone a year but it seems like the division has changed a lot as far as the technology these guys are using. It might take some getting used to, but I think our guys are up to the challenge. This is going to be our year. It’s time to come out and make a name for ourselves.”
