WALKERTON, ON –Fan favourite ‘Marvellous’ Marvin Freiburger etched his name into the Sauble Speedway record books on Saturday, June 24th by winning a Ltd. Late Model feature event as part of the facility’s 2017 season opener – the first night under the newly formed ownership of partners Paul Gresel and Mark Dilley.
‘’We were honoured just to be in the field on a night like this – but winning is an even sweeter feeling,” boomed Freiburger post-race. “After experiencing this energy tonight – from the drivers to the team members to the fans to the staff – I can say with complete confidence that this is a new beginning for the speedway”.
“It’s a new era. It felt incredible to be back racing here tonight. If this event was any indication, Sauble is absolutely in good hands with Mark [Dilley] and Paul [Gresel] running the show”.
With his Round 1 win, the Walkerton, ON pilot has immediately asserted himself as a contender for the 2017 track championship. And, following a long off-season’s worth of work, Freiburger is ecstatic to see his family-run team beginning to realize their long-established potential.
‘’I think that we absolutely have a program that can do this all season,’’ smiled Freiburger as he motioned to his team’s opening night feature win trophy. “We’ve put in a lot of effort and a lot of research over the past few months and it sure felt tonight like it was starting to pay off. This team has been hard after it – and we’re more than ready to start reaping the rewards of hard work”.
And, as a longtime Sauble Speedway regular, seeing the crowded pit area and grandstands for Saturday’s event carried special significance for the well-liked veteran.
‘’Looking around and seeing everyone that came out to support the season opener was a pretty special feeling,’’ said ‘Marvellous’ Marvin. “I think we’re all ecstatic that Sauble is open for 2017 and we’re all committed to making sure that it stays open”.
“I love this place with all my heart. It’s always been home and I’m happy to be here with my family and friends. You’ll see us here for every single event supporting this place in any way that we can. It’s going to take every driver and fan in this area to help this speedway prosper – and I think we have the perfect group of people to make that happen”.
