FLAMBORO, ON – After working through her best career year in the wildly popular Mini Stock division last season, veteran Lisa deLeeuw is set on entering 2018 with momentum on her side and ready to fashion her first ever feature victory.
“The one thing I can say about our team is that we’ve improved with every single season,” says the ever-positive Mini Stock veteran. “Even if it’s only a small improvement, it still means the world to us. We put everything we have into our program, so every time we can take a step forward it’s a big deal.”
deLeeuw impressed against the Sunset Speedway Mini Stock division in 2017, finishing top-15 in the championship points standings and earning a number of top-10 feature event finishes throughout the season.
“Jumping in the Nissan [240sx] was such a game-changer for us,” explains the second-generation racer. “We knew that if we could figure that car out that it would benefit us in the long run. As soon as we were able to nail down a setup that worked for my driving style, we started improving our results every week. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”
This season, deLeeuw is unlikely to commit to one speedway for a full campaign, electing instead to race sporadically and tour the province with teammate – and boyfriend – Eric Yorke.
“We’re both real excited to take a step back from racing fulltime and do some travelling,” says deLeeuw. “Eric [Yorke] has done a lot helping me with my car and working with me to put together a setup that fits me.”
“I really believe my first win is right around the corner. It’s my number one goal for this season. Every start we make – we’ll be looking to get to the front and stay there.”
