LONDON, ON – While he’s dedicated his 2019 season to his Pro Late Model program – as well as his team’s multi-car Bone Stock operation – Delaware Speedway fan favourite Kris Lawrence has entered this the Super Stock portion of this weekend’s Canadian Short Track Nationals at Jukasa Motor Speedway.
A longtime Super Stock standout in Delaware’s weekly action, Lawrence’s appearance this Saturday will mark only his second start this season in the wildly competitive division.
“We ran this car at Jukasa in June (for the Prelude to the Nationals event) and we picked up a lot of important data,” offers Lawrence. “Our focus this season has been spread out all over, between crewing for my brother (APC United Late Model Series Rookie Jordan Lawrence), working to get my own [Pro] Late Model stuff off the ground and running our team’s Bone Stocks whenever I can at Delaware.”
“Even with that said, I’m confident in the package we’re bringing to Jukasa. We’re going to build on what we learned in this race last year and what we picked up at Jukasa in June. I know that we can put together something that will have us in the mix at the end of the race.”
The second-generation wheelman has two career Super Stock appearances at ‘Canada’s Crown Jewel’ and has developed an understanding of what it takes to succeed at the lightning fast speed-plant.
“I’m happy that we’ve had the seat time (at Jukasa) that has helped us understand what works and what doesn’t there,” says Lawrence. “Jukasa is a place that demands the very best of you. You can’t miscalculate your stuff. Because, if you do, you can be guaranteed that you’re in for a long day.”
And, while his time dedicated to his Super Stock has been limited this season, Lawrence insists that his Pro Late Model experience this season has made him a more complete racer ahead of this Sunday’s Jukasa return.
“The Pro Late [Model] division is so packed with talent that you’re going to learn lots just being around it every week,” notes Lawrence. “Whether it’s crewing for Jordan in APC Series shows or racing my own stuff at Delaware or Sauble. It gives you a different perspective on things. It absolutely makes you better.”
“Our Super Stock stuff is good,” adds the London, ON native. “We have a list of things we’re looking forward to trying this weekend. I can’t wait to see what we have for these guys. We have a bit of a shoestring budget compared to what some of these other guys have – but I’m positive none of them are going to be able to outwork us.”
