WARSAW, IN – Former Crate Sprint Car front runner turned 360 Sprint Car up-and-comer Josh Shantz has announced his plans to follow the entirety of the Great Lakes Sprint Car Series in 2019.
The Midwest-based tour boasts a 26-race schedule featuring across Michigan and Indiana – in addition to co-sanctioning Ohsweken Speedway’s lauded Canadian Sprint Car Nationals event in September – that is guaranteed to match Shantz against some of the top 360 Sprint Car racers in North America.
“Our whole team is more excited than I could ever explain,” smiles Shantz. “Putting together a program that can go out on tour is something I’ve been dreaming of doing for years now. There has been a ton of work that’s gone into making this season possible. I can’t wait to get started.”
Shantz cut his teeth in Ohsweken Speedway’s Crate Sprint Car division after having transitioned from pavement racing. After amassing a number of feature victories and podium finishes, Shantz graduated to fulltime 360 Sprint Car competition in 2017.
“We’ve gotten more and more comfortable every time we’ve raced a 360,” explains the Canadian expat. “This season I just want to give myself the opportunity to be successful everywhere we go.”
“I’m more prepared now than I’ve ever been for a racing season,” adds Shantz. “We aren’t going to be happy with just taking part and being around the tour this year – we want to be able to compete and run up front every week.”
The first-generation competitor made starts across a number of states in 2018, appearing with the Patriot Sprint Tour, Empire Super Sprints and the Sprints on Dirt Series. He hopes that the experience gained throughout those travels will help cut his learning curve with the GLSS.
“We tried to do as much travelling as we could last year just to get a feel for different tracks and different competition,” explains Shantz. “I learned more in that one season than I ever have before. It was a head-start towards what we hope to accomplish in 2019 for sure.”
Josh Shantz’s 2019 Great Lakes Super Sprints Series effort will be sponsored by KalTire, ArkansasFinishline.com, Cober Trucking, D.Vo Transport, Creative Edge Signs and Graphics, Donath Motorworx, Heritage Pet and Garden, Baden Automotive, Kendall Motor Oil and Dirt Track Nation Apparel
