Jordan Latimer Ready For Sunset Speedways Opener

COLDWATER, ON – Despite impressing fans and competitors alike during a well-fought second half to the 2017 season, third-generation racer Jordan Latimer knows that it’s a whole new chapter when Sunset Speedway welcomes its 2018 campaign on Saturday, April 28th.

“Our expectations are to come out on Opening Night and get a handle on what this new rules package means for us and what it’s going to do in race trim,” explains Latimer in reference to Sunset’s recent adoption of a 10-inch tire for its Ltd. Late Model division.

The tire change has been the talk of the division over the off-season and Latimer knows that his team will be wary of how the car will respond on Opening Night.

“Switching to a 10-inch tire is an entirely new puzzle for our team,” notes the Coldwater, ON racer. “We don’t have anyone in the shop that has experience with these tires, so that adds some pressure going in. But – we’re going to work through it as a group.”

“We’re going to do a lot of testing before our first race,” adds Latimer. “We definitely can’t just walk into April 28th blindly and hope for the best. There’s a plan in place to make sure we’re prepared when that first green flag drops.”

But, even with the adjustment period, a new setup and other challenges ahead of him, Latimer knows just how pivotal a strong performance in Round 1 of the season can be for a team’s championship aspirations.

“If we can come out and grab a podium on Night One I’ll be happy,” says Latimer. “We need to start the year off strong. If we can run up near the front during the opener, it’s going to set the tone for the next five months.”

“Momentum is a huge deal, for sure. If you get yourself in a hole early in the schedule, it can make life hard for the rest of the season – and that’s what we’re looking to avoid. A lot has changed for us – and for the rest of the division – over the off-season, but if we can find our momentum early it’ll cut the learning curve in half.”
