Jordan Latimer Impresses in Sauble Speedway Late Model Debut

Jordan Latimer
COLDWATER, ON – Rising star Jordan Latimer took full advantage of his first career Sauble Speedway Late Model start on Saturday night, showcasing both his tenacity and versatility behind the wheel en route to a 5th and 3rd-place finish through the evening’s twin 35-lap feature events.

After Latimer had changed into street clothes and was working to help his family-run team load their No. 90 into the trailer for the long ride home to Coldwater, Latimer was all smiles as he looked back on a very successful night in unfamiliar surroundings.

“Being able to walk out of here with a top-5 and a podium in our first start is about as good as it gets,” grinned Latimer post-race. “It’s an awesome feeling to be able to prove to people that we’re strong enough to run up front anywhere we unload. This track is so much different than Sunset [Speedway]. We had to throw a few haymakers at our setup for tonight – but it all worked out better than I could even have imagined”

When asked if he felt as though his low-dollar effort was further challenged by a new speedway with new competition, Latimer shook off the notion and admitted that – if his team are indeed considered dark-horses – it’s not something the former Super Stock regular has paid much mind.

“I’ve never really thought about it – but I guess we probably do have the underdog label attached to us a bit,” laughed the third-generation racer. “I definitely don’t have the experience that a lot of the other guys on this roster do and our team doesn’t have the same funding that most of these other programs do – but we’re still ready to put in as much work as we have to if it means giving the rest of these guys a run for their money”

Having started the 2018 season with intentions of campaigning for a Sunset Speedway championship, Latimer has now switched focus and is uncertain of just how much his team will be racing this Summer – and where fans can expect to see his Dave Doucette General Contracting-sponsored ride.

“We’re looking at things on a week-by-week basis,” explained Latimer. “I’m doing my best right now just to make sure all the bills stay paid. Committing to a full-season up here is something we might not be able to do”

“If a sponsor steps up and wants to give us a little bit of help to make sure we can jump in the points chase here that would be amazing – but, otherwise, we’ll be here as much as we can. I really enjoyed myself. I’m looking forward to coming back.”
