OSHAWA, ON – Longtime Peterborough Speedway fan favourite John Baker Jr. will return home this Saturday with the Ontario Modified Racing Series, as his The Marksmen Club-backed outfit continues their search for their first feature victory of the 2017 season.
“If a win’s going to happen for us this year – I don’t think there’s a cooler place for it to happen than Peterborough,” offers the multi-time champion.”We’ll make sure to have our own cheering section ready for us on Saturday just in case. That’s the part I might love the most about racing at Peterborough with out friends and family in the stands – wether we finish 1st or last, we always have the loudest support.”
‘JBJ’ has triumped at Peterborough in every division he’s entered – from Mini Stock to Thunder Car to Ltd. Late Model. And, behind the wheel of an Open Wheel Modified, even claimed victory during the 2015 edition of the prestigious Autumn Colours Classic.
“Peterborough is our hometrack,” offers Baker.”We’ve always been good there in the Modified. Winning Autumn Colours was one of the biggest nights of my career. So, anytime we unload there, we feel like we have a chance.”
“Our team understands Peterborough better than any other track in the province,” continues the veteran. “We know every dip in the asphalt, every bump and every crease, so if we can get the setup even half right we’re going to be tough to beat.”
For Baker, although his familiar No. 63 has struggled uncharacteristically this season, there remains no other option than to keep working towards returning to victory lane.
‘’Our entire season has been all about not giving up and not skipping nights in the shop, ‘’ explains Baker. ‘’All year long we’ve been leaning our shoulder into the wind and working as hard as we can to try and catch our grip on this car. We haven’t taken a step backwards all season. If we can keep doing that – we know we’ll be rewarded eventually.”
