OSHAWA, ON – Peterborough Speedway veteran John Baker Jr. closed his Ontario Modified Racing Series with his third straight series win after a 2017 campaign largely spent working to find his footing with a brand new racecar.
“It feels like these last three weeks have been about us just making up for lost time,” says Baker with a laugh. “Our [hot] streak started off a bit slower than what we would have liked – but we just stuck to the fundamentals that we know work for our team. We kept after it because we knew eventually it would all turn around.”
And while his final three performances of the season have been some of the finest of his Open Wheel Modified career, Baker insists his most recent success is the product of nothing less than hard work and dedication.
“Anytime you see a guy running at the front of the field – no matter what division he’s in – you can be guaranteed that it’s a product of hard work,” explains ‘JBJ’.
“There aren’t many coincidences in this sport. You need to do your homework, you need to spend a lot of hours in the shop and then you just hope that what you put into your program will come back to you.”
When asked his early plans for the 2018 season, JBJ , Replyed with Laughter, We will see you in five months, As for now it’s time for the indoor AC season, I would like to thank all my sponsors and supports that have been with me all season long.
“There’s a long time between now and then, but if we have the sponsorship to do it again, we’ll be probably be here to give these teams everything we’ve got.”
