SAUBLE BEACH, ON – Sauble Speedway’s headline Ltd. Late Model division has made headlines all season long in 2018. This Saturday, the race for the division’s championship will come to a head, as veterans Jason Parker and Rick Spencer-Walt each battle for their chance to become the speedway’s first NASCAR sanctioned champion.
Spencer-Walt will lead the standings into the final night of competition, with a slim 9-point advantage over Parker. However, with only one night remaining on the schedule, there remains no question that anything can happen.
“I don’t think you could pick two guys on the roster that are any less likely to give an inch out there,” Says Parker – a multi-time Sauble champion in his own right. “Anyone that comes out for this is in for a show.”
“Rick has a good team and good equipment. He’s a worthy opponent, for sure. If we come with anything less than our absolute best we’re going to leave disappointed.”
For Spencer-Walt, 2018 has been somewhat of an embarrassment of riches, as the third-generation talent has stockpiled victories in both the Sauble weekly division as well as the Great Lakes Concrete mini-series.
“This is the best program I’ve ever had,” notes Walt from his team’s Oro-Medonte, ON shop. “I’ve always had a lot of belief in myself and any team I’ve been a part of, but this deal that we have in 2018 is on another level.”
“[Car Owner] Eldon Wallis built this team and put all this together because he likes winning races and he wants to win championships,” adds the current Peterborough Speedway Autumn Colours Classic champion. “So, I know exactly what my job is this weekend.”
“We aren’t the ‘good enough’ team. We’re out there to win. Our plan is to unload with the points lead and then leave the same way we came in. My guys aren’t going to settle for anything less than that.”
