SHALLOW LAKE, ON – As the Great Lakes Concrete Super Stock Series prepares for Round 3 of its 2018 season this Thursday at Sauble Speedway, there’s no question that Jake Zevenbergen will enter the 50-lap event as the hottest driver on the Sauble side of the roster.
Zevenbergen – a homegrown Sauble Speedway talent – has won the last two Saturday night features at ‘the Beach’ and has developed into a strong favourite to contend for the 2018 weekly Thunder Car title.
“We aren’t working with the biggest sample size yet – but I’m just about ready to say this is the best race car I’ve ever driven,” says Zevenbergen. “Over the off-season, we sat down as a team and mapped out what we liked about our program and what we needed to change. And, so far, things have been working out exactly the way we hoped they would. It’s an incredible feeling to see your hard work pay off.”
Zevenbergen came within arms reach of a first career championship last season, eventually losing out to 2017 Sauble Speedway champion Zack Casemore. But, from his team’s disappointment, appeared a newly focused and dedicated racer that absolutely looks ready to take control of the division.
“This team has evolved a lot in the last two years,” offers the second-generation racer. “We kept moving forward because we knew that we had to. This division changes every single week. The veterans are working hard to stay on top and the young guys coming through the door are hungry to make a name for themselves. If you get lazy – even for a moment – then you’re going to get left behind.”
Looking ahead to July 12th’s 50-Lap series event, it’s clear that Zevenbergen is more than ready to showcase a skill set that he believes is not solely tailored to regular 30-lap races on Saturday nights.
“This is a fantastic race team,” continues Zevenbergen. “And we’re just getting warmed up. These last two Saturdays have been huge for us, but I know that we can get even better. This [Great Lakes Concrete Super Stock] Series has everyone excited – and we aren’t any different.
