SAUBLE BEACH, ON – Sauble Speedway representative Jake Zevenbergen gave his home track crowd plenty to cheer about tonight, logging a dramatic second place finish in a talent-laden Thunder Car main event.
“It’s our goal to be at the top of this division one day – that’s where we’re headed,” reflected Zevenbergen post-race. “And, if we want to do that, this is the kind of field we need to be comfortable running in”
“This is the deep end of the pool,” added the second-generation star. “I have so much respect for the guys that were out here tonight. They don’t give you a single inch no matter what”
Zevenbergen brought the capacity crowd to its feet through the final 5-laps of competition as he darted into the top-3 and made a spirited push for the win with less than two laps remaining before eventually settling for second place.
“We were coming at the end,” smiled the rising star. “If we were as strong all race as we were in those last 10-laps I think it would’ve been a different story”
“This car felt awesome. I’m proud of my guys. I’m proud of how we performed tonight. This is just the start for us”
With a month of competition still remaining on the Sauble Speedway schedule – in addition to a full slate of Playoff Season action this Fall – Zevenbergen knows this kind of breakout performance is exactly what his family-run team needed.
“We’re going to build from this performance,” said Zevenbergen. “We’ve got a pretty busy schedule these next two months and this is the kind of run you need to get ready for that”
“The nights in the shop feel a lot shorter when you have these kind of moments to reflect on. I’m excited to get back out here next Saturday and do it again.”
