MILTON, ON – Pro Late Model young gun Jake Gilbert is ready for his stiffest test of the season this Sunday as Flamboro Speedway plays host to the final round of the Grisdale Triple Crown Tournament as part of Day 2 of Flamboro Speedway’s ‘Frostoberfest’ weekend.
The Mini Stock graduate has showcased constant improvement throughout his rookie campaign and is excited to test himself against what’s anticipated to be an elevated level of competition in Flamboro’s season finale.
“We’ve dedicated ourselves all season to making sure nobody out here is working harder than us,” says Gilbert with pride. “This is an incredible roster. And there may be teams that are working just as hard as us – but I can promise you they aren’t working harder.”
“We’re preparing for this weekend because we understand what it means,” continues the second-generation racer. “Frostoberfest is the biggest event on the Flamboro schedule and the Grisdale Triple Crown is something that every Pro Late Model racer in the province wants on his resume.”
The 100-lap event is certain to require a sense of strategy for any racer hoping to find themselves in victory lane at the end of the day – a fact that Gilbert welcomes with open arms.
“You only need to see a couple races at Flamboro to know that anything can happen once the green is out,” noted Gilbert.”
“We just have to keep from making the kind of mistakes that could end our day.”
“We know that we have a good car,” continues the personable freshman. “It would be the biggest night of my life if I could outrun the rest of these guys on Sunday. I know that Frostoberfest has a pretty crazy history as far as upsets go – and it would mean the world for me to add my name to that.”
And though Gilbert will surrender considerable experience to the rest of the Frostoberfest starting grid, he’s confident in his team’s ability to surprise the entire division.
“All it takes is one big day to show these guys what you’re about and what you can do,” insists Gilbert. “That’s what we see this weekend as. This weekend is a gigantic opportunity for us to show that we’re for real.”
“I have so much respect for the teams on this roster – but every single one of them was just like me at some point,” continues the Milton, ON native. “Every driver that you see running up front was a rookie first. We’re ready to shock some people on Sunday.”
