COLDWATER, ON – Former Sunset Speedway Super Stock standout Jade Franklin has announced he will campaign for Rookie of the Year honours with the APC United Late Model Series in 2018.
“We’ve been waiting to finalize and announce this for a long time,” beams Franklin. “I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited for anything. I’ve been watching the APC [United Late Model] Series from the day of their first race and I’ve always wanted to be a part of it. This is all I’ve wanted for a long time.”
Franklin’s family-owned team has acquired a Hamke Chassis formerly campaigned by Kyle Busch Motorsports for their inaugural foray into the cross-province tour and are confident in their ability to jump right into contention.
“I’m hoping we can hit the ground running,” explains the Coldwater, ON racer optimistically. “We have an awesome group of guys and an awesome car. That’s a great combination.”
“The goal is to put the car in the box at the end of the night in one piece and to have a thicker notebook than we were working with when we unloaded,” adds Franklin. “If we can do that – then I’m confident we’ll be able to pick up speed with every race. We just need to put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward.”
And although this new challenge is undoubtedly the biggest of Franklin’s young career, the first generation racer insists it’s a transition for which his team has been readying themselves for quite some time.
“I honestly feel like the three years of [Super Stock] racing was all about preparing for this step,” says the teenager. “We’ve had our eyes on the APC Series for a long time. It’s exactly where we wanted to go.”
“I’ve been reading notes and watching as much on-board footage as I can get my hands on,” continues Franklin. “I just want to make sure I’m ready. This is a serious opportunity and I can promise that I’m going to make the most of it.”
