Gerrit Tiemersma Eager to Continue Momentum in Season Debut this Saturday at Flamboro Speedway’s Operation Green Flag

NEWMARKET, ON – After closing his 2019 campaign in impressive fashion, third-generation hot shoe Gerrit Tiemersma is ready to pick up where he left off as he kick-starts his 2020 season at Flamboro Speedway this Saturday.

“To say that we’re excited to get back racing would be a gigantic understatement,” offered Tiemersma. “2019 finished off about as strong as could have imagined – between winning the (Sunset Speedway) Fall Velocity and finishing on the podium at (Flamboro Speedway’s) Frostoberfest – we just can’t wait to get back to work and do all that we can to find the same form that we had in the Fall.”

While Ontario’s short track racing scene has come to a complete standstill during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tiemersma has stayed busier than ever during his time away from competition.

“I’ve got a lot of buddies that have had a hard time keeping busy during the pandemic but that definitely hasn’t really been an issue for me,” shrugs Tiemersma. “Between working fulltime roofing and preparing our car to go racing, I haven’t had to worry much about filling the hours. I also just graduated from Durham College in April so life hasn’t been too bad lately.”

The fact that Tiemersma’s 2020 debut will be in the proverbial backyard of his team’s primary sponsor – Wayfreight Services Ltd. – makes for some additional motivation for the Newmarket, ON native to find his way to the front of the field. However, Tiemersma insists that the stout field doesn’t instill any additional intimidation.

“When you’re well prepared there’s really no need to feel intimidated,” says Tiemersma matter-of-factly. “We’re going to be able to sign in at the pit gate knowing that we have stuff that’s strong enough to compete. The rest is on me to get the most out of it and turn this experience into something positive for our team.”

“It’s awesome to see this level of talent coming out for a one-off race,” adds Tiemersma. “My social media pages have been lighting up with people talking about this event. Everyone’s excited to either be at the track with their team or to watch the broadcast at home. There’s going to be a ton of eyes on Flamboro this Saturday. Which means it’ll be a huge win for whomever can pull it off.”
