ALCONA BEACH, ON – In the midst of a mercurial 2017 season, Sunset Speedway Super Stock regular Coltin Everingham has confirmed his Queen Pouteen-sponsored team have filed entry for this Sunday’s ‘Chase for the Colours’ event at Peterborough Speedway.
Everingham debuted a brand new Streamline Race Products chassis earlier this season, and since then has experienced a first quarter complete with equal parts career highs and frustrating lows.
‘’We’ve definetely taken the long road with this program when you look back on the last four years,’’ says Everingham. “This season is going to be the year we break out. I’ve been saying that since the snow was still on the ground. This is our year. We aren’t going to settle for anything else”.
“It can be aggravating some nights when you have one of the absolute best cars in the pits but can’t bring back the results you want,” adds the Alcona Beach, ON product. “But, I guess that’s all part of the journey. We’re learning from every night on track. Every result we have – positive or negative – only serves to help us get better”.
However, despite his on-again off-again bad luck, Everingham opts to view each outing as a lesson – regardless of outcome. This Sunday, he will look to qualify his family-owned ride for a front row starting position at this October’s Autumn Colours Classic via the lauded ‘Chase for the Colours’ preliminary event.
‘’I’m proud of what I’ve already learned this season – but no one wants to be in school forever,’’ laughs the third-generation racer. ‘’A big win on a big stage like the [Chase for the Colours] is just about the perfect way to show this division what we’re capable of”.
“With how much this team has improved and how strong our car is, I believe with everything in me that we can stand toe-to-toe with anyone in the province. There isn’t a car anywhere in Ontario that could unload on Sunday and make me nervous”.
‘’I’ll tell anyone that’ll listen – I’m a future [Autumn Colours] Classic champion,’’ insists Everingham as he leans forward for emphasis. “There’s not a doubt in my mind. Wether its 2017 or 2027. We’re going to win that race. And everyone can remember me calling my shot when it finally does happen”.
“So, with that being said, we realize how important a strong start position is for anyone coming out and trying to win that event,” continues the fourth-year racer. “You put this car on the pole at Peterborough and it’s going to be tough for anyone to get us out of that top spot. If we can win the Chase this weekend, these fellas are in for a long day on October 8th”.
