INNISFIL, ON – It’s been over a decade since well-travelled veteran Frank Davey sat atop a Super Stock division’s points standings at season’s end.
A former Barrie Speedway and Sunset Speedway champion, Davey has enjoyed his best campaign in years throughout the 2019 season, with just two race nights separating the fan favourite from earning another track championship.
“Racing is the same as just about any other part of life – if you want something you have to get up and work for it,” explains Davey. “This division rewards hard work. You won’t beat the teams at the front here if you aren’t putting in the hours.”
Flyin’ Frank will enter the penultimate event of the season this Saturday with a narrow 7-point lead over fellow front runner Brandon Passer. However, Davey insists that his team will not be overly focused on the mathematics during race night.
“We make sure not to get too hung up on the numbers from one race to another,” shrugs the Innisfil, ON racer. “There’s not a whole lot gained by pulling out the calculator after every heat race and feature. And, it’s a pretty good way to drive yourself nuts.”
“Our goal is always just to come off the trailer doing everything we can to win,” continues Davey. “If you win the race, the points take of themselves. We try to keep things pretty simple that way.”
Davey credits his family-operated team’s dedication and work ethic to his career renaissance that has allowed him to be within reach of a track championship with just two nights remaining on the schedule.
“We pride ourselves on just how much work goes into this car every single week,” says Davey. “This team starts prepping for the next Saturday as soon as the car rolls off of the trailer on Sunday morning.”
“It doesn’t matter if you win by a straightaway or go a lap down there’s always going to be work to put in. We remind ourselves of that every week and it’s been working for us. Now, we just need to find a way to seal the deal.”
