MILTON, ON – Following a headline-stealing 2016 season that saw Eric Yorke stand toe-to-toe with fellow front runner Nic Montanari in one of the most memorable Mini Stock championship battles in modern memory, there’s no question the Milton, ON native is more than ready to return to the grind with hopes of coming out one spot ahead in the race for the 2017 division title.
“2016 was a season that our team is going to remember for as long as we’re doing this,” says Yorke with a smile when asked of his nightly wars with eventual champion Montanari.
“That’s the kind of experience that makes you better. You can’t help but be a tougher competitor when you race back and forth with a guy like Nic [Montanari] for an entire season. It makes you sharper every single Saturday. It was intense. I loved every minute of it. Even though we finished second – I loved racing with Nic for a championship week-in and week-out”.
Yorke’s multiple feature victories provided a career resurgence for the former division champion, however the soft-spoken standout is candid when noting his family-run team’s room for improvement.
“I’m proud of the wins we earned last season and everything we accomplished – but there were nights where we rolled out of the pits and I knew we could have been better,” admits the veteran competitor. “This year – the plan is not to have any of those nights. I don’t want any regrets at the end of the season. Our number one priority is to leave everything we have on the track each night. We’re not holding anything back”.
With ten seasons worth of Mini Stock competition under his belt, it appears as though Yorke is just now starting to enter his prime. After debuting a brand new car in 2016 and effectively re branding his program from the ground up, the multi-time feature winner appears more ready than ever to tear through Sunset’s perennially talented division.
“I think anyone in this division will tell you it takes a real long time to perfect your craft in one of these cars,” offers Yorke. “The cars have advanced so much in the last ten years. It feels like things are constantly changing. So, as the rules change and as the cars evolve, you have to change with them or you’ll get left behind. We debuted a brand new car last season and we’ve worked really hard to get a handle on it. This season, we’re ready to compete for wins right from opening night”
“I’m not looking for easy nights,” adds Yorke matter-of-factly. “We’re here to compete. We’re here to be tested. There’s no question that the teams on this roster are going to push us”
“We’re going to be ready to work every single time we sign in at the back gate, I promise you that. Our team has a ton of fresh ideas and I couldn’t be more excited to see how they translate this season.”
