Dustyn Mombourquette Happy with his on Track Progress

BARRIE, ON – In the midst of his most successful Sunset Speedway Super Stock season to date, Dustyn Mombourquette will enter August 26th competition as a driver to keep an eye on after his string off quality finishes.

However, just because the second-generation racer is beginning to find his footing within the intensely competitive Super Stock division, don’t expect the notoriously reserved youngster to enact a change in demeanour any time soon.

“I’m just not comfortable with coming out and trying to be as loud as possible and bragging about myself to make people care about my racing,” shrugs the soft-spoken teenager. “It’s not me. I’m a lot happier just putting in the work at the shop and trying to improve on the track.”

It’s evident the rising star has taken significant influence from his father – former Sunset Speedway feature winner John Mombourquette- as the pair have worked side-by-side all season long to establish their self-owned operation as one of the best in the Sunset pit area.

“My dad has always taught me just to worry about myself,” explains the third-year racer. “Worry about the effort I’m putting in and everything else will take care of itself.”

“That’s exactly what we’ve been doing with this new car,” adds Mombourquette. “We knew that this new piece had a lot of potential and that we just needed to put in the hours to figure it out. We’ve worked a lot this year but it’s really paid off. We’re getting better every Saturday.”

And, after a very successful 2017 season thus far, Mombourquette’s considerable improvement is becoming less and less of a well-kept secret as the schedule nears its end.

“I think we’ve had someone come over to the trailer every night this year to tell me how much I’ve improved,” reports Mombourquette with a smile. “That’s just about the best feeling in the world. It makes me want to work even harder.”

“Having all of your efforts recognized by people is a huge shot of confidence,” continues the up-and-comer. “I can’t thank people enough for the encouragement they’ve shown me this season. Now, all I want to do is keep performing well and giving them reasons to come over at the end of the night.”
