BARRIE, ON – Fresh off of a season-defining 3rd place finish on July 1st, second-generation racer Dustyn Mombourquette will be back in action with the Sunset Speedway NASCAR Super Stock division tonight with hopes of tallying his second podium finish of the 2017 season.
The son of former Sunset Late Model frontrunner John Mombourquette, Dustyn has displayed an innate willingness to learn since his 2015 debut, and appears to be coming into his own during his third full season spent with the Super Stock roster.
“I’m excited to get back to [Sunset] and see what we can do for a follow-up,” smiles Mombourquette when asked to comment on his July 1st performance.
“My Dad has always taught me that you have to take the good with the bad in this sport. We’ve had a lot of frustrating moments over the last two years, it’s been a long road, so to share a moment like last Saturday with him was pretty incredible. This is the part of the game that I’ve always dreamed of”
In a division brimming with emerging talent, Mombourquette knows how paramount it is to find consistency in order to establish his family-run team’s position as a future contender.
“I don’t want to just be an afterthought in this division,” remarks the Barrie, ON native. “Our team’s goal is to get to the point where we’re racing for wins every single Saturday. We don’t want to just be a flash in the pan. A podium finish is awesome – but we want this to just be the start”
Following two years of paying dues, the well-spoken teenager maintains that his focus remains on moving forward – one step at a time.
“Our goal for this season really isn’t a lot different from where we were the last two years. We just want to learn as much as we can and keep improving. If we’re better at the end of the night than we were when we signed in at the pit gate – then we’re going to go home happy.”
