SAULT STE MARIE, ON – After competing throughout Southern Ontario for the bulk of the last decade, second-generation standout Dustin Jackson is retrofitting his team’s plans for the upcoming season, electing to focus on speedways within a short distance of their shop to cut down on expenses and travel time.
“I’ve had an amazing time with my family going up and down the highways the last few seasons but we made the decision to press pause on that for a little while,” explains ‘The Natural’.
“I’m working fulltime now and that makes it a lot tougher to be out for two or three days at a time racing,” continues Jackson. “When we were running the OSCAAR (Super Late Model) tour we weren’t racing at any speedway closer than eight hours from our shop. It was awesome being able to compete with them, but it takes a lot out of you when you’re hauling that far every single weekend.”
Jackson’s efforts will be concentrated primarily on Onaway Speedway’s weekly Super Late Model division in Onaway, MI and his family-operated team is also working to acquired an Open Wheel Modified to field on a part-time basis at Kinross Speedway Park in Kinross, MI.
“Onaway and Kinross are both about an hour from our shop so we’re excited to keep busy racing at both of those tracks,” explains Jackson. “Our Super Late [Model] is real good at Onaway and the plan is to pick up a Mod to run some of the bigger shows at Kinross like the Hot Shoe 100.”
In addition to his local commitments, Jackson has a return to Jukasa Motor Speedway circled on the team’s calendar for August 31st’s Canadian Short Track Nationals with the Ontario Outlaw Super Late Model Series.
“As long as we have a car in the shop I think we’ll always find a way to make it to Jukasa,” smiles Jackson. “It’s definitely the nicest speedway I’ve ever been to. The atmosphere there is unreal and the staff is awesome. We’ll absolutely be back in August for the Nationals.”
While Jackson has no additional Ontario Outlaw Super Late Model Series races on his schedule at press time, his team continues to work to obtain the necessary sponsorship support to attend some of the tour’s high-profile events.
