TORONTO, ON – Ontario short track veteran Doug Fischer is ready to take on the full OSCAAR Hot Rod Series schedule in 2018. And, while the tour will visit tracks across the province, Fischer has circled Sunset Speedway as one facility in particular that his team can’t wait to roll into.
“Everything about the [OSCAAR] Hot Rod Series has been awesome so far,” says Fischer. “I love the car that we’ve put together, the guys we’re racing with have been fantastic – and now we get to go to Sunset four times. I couldn’t ask for much more right now.”
While Fischer began his career as a Sauble Speedway regular in the mid-1990s, Sunset Speedway has always remained a place in which the Toronto, ON native has revered.
“I want my first [OSCAAR Hot Rod Series] win at Sunset because it’s always been my favourite place to race,” explains the veteran. “Every time we’re there, the stands are packed and the atmosphere is incredible. It’s a great place to compete at and I can only imagine what it would feel like to win there.”
Fischer hopes to contend for the 2018 OSCAAR Hot Rod Series championship and knows that strong performances throughout the tour’s four Sunset Speedway appearances will be imperative to his title aspirations.
“We want to be sitting at the top of the standings when the season is all said and done,” details Fischer “But – if we can’t put together a good Sunset program – there’s no way we can do that.”
“We were strong at the Velocity last September and I know that we can be even better when we’re back in the Spring. We want a win at Sunset and we’re going to do whatever we need to do to make that happen.”
