LONDON, ON – After a wildly successful decade-plus tenure as one of Delaware Speedway’s Super Stock stalwarts, multi-time feature winner Darrell Lake has confirmed that his team will move to the Pro Late Model division with intentions of pursuing the APC United Late Model Series Rookie of the Year title in 2019.
“It’s all a little overwhelming if I’m being honest,” laughs Lake in regards to his upcoming freshman campaign. “This is just about the most exciting time to jump into Pro Late Model racing because of what the APC (United Late Model) Series has been able to do.”
The London, ON native has acquired a car from longtime friend – and reigning and defending APC United Late Model Series champion – JR Fitzpatrick and is confident in his team’s ability to cut their learning curve and find their way to the front with their burgeoning program.
“We know the car is a real, real strong piece – so its up to us to get the absolute most out of it,” says Lake. “I’m fortunate to have a friend and mentor like JR [Fitzpatrick] to lean on. I’m familiar with certain aspects of most of the tracks that the tour visits – but his knowledge is absolutely going to be that difference-maker to help us really cut the learning curve.”
For fans of Lake, the move from Super Stock frontrunner to Pro Late Model rookie comes at an exciting time, as the division continues to provide some of the best competition in the country.
“The growth that the [Pro Late Model] division is experiencing right now was a huge motivator for us to make this decision,” explains the former Delaware Speedway champion. “I think a big part of the division taking off like it has is thanks to the APC Series and the professionalism they bring to the table at every track they go to.”
“I’m excited to get on tour and test ourselves against some of the best teams in Canada,” adds Lake. “It’s undoubtedly a huge step for us, but I know that – between a good car and an amazing team of people – we have exactly the foundation to build on for us to succeed.”
Darrell Lakes current sponsorship comes from London Drive Systems, Custom Fluid Power, Alliance Millwork, Whitworth Towing and Maple city tire.
