ORONO, ON – Following a breakout win in last September’s Velocity 250 event, Ltd. Late Model rising star Danny Benedict enter the 2018 campaign with a fresh outlook on competition and newly minted confidence in his pursuit of a first career track championship.
“I have a lot of faith in our team and how much we can accomplish this season,” says Benedict. “The skies the limit for us right now. We’ve never had this kind of confidence. We’re coming into this season fully expecting to compete for the Sunset Speedway weekly championship and the [Great Lakes Concrete] Ltd. Late Model Series championship.”
“Our team hasn’t stopped working all Winter,” adds the fan favourite. “You can feel the excitement in the shop every time we’re in there. We all believe in what we’re building and we know that 2018 is going to be a huge year for us.”
Benedict will once again unite with Crew Chief Dale Shaw after fashioning a career year together in 2017.
“Dale and I work really well together,” says ‘The Big Ticket’. “I don’t think we’ve gone a single day since the Velocity without texting or calling one another with ideas on how to make the car better.”
“This is only our second year with this [Shaw Racecars] chassis and building it has been the best decision I’ve ever made in my racing career. We haven’t really changed much to get ready for this season, but I think the small changes that we have made are going to pay off for us.”
And, despite their confidence, Benedict and company know that their season’s success will hinge largely on how strong of a start they get off to entering April 28th’s Sunset Speedway season opener.
“We’ve better than ever – but we still need to prove that,” says Benedict. “There are a lot of real good teams chasing the [Sunset Speedway] championship, so we don’t really have the luxury of getting off to a slow start like we did in 2017.”
“Our goal is to hit the ground running and put together some strong runs right from opening night. If we can do that, then I really believe that we have a chance at taking a run at our first championship.”
Danny Benedict’s 2018 efforts will he made possible thanks to the support of Shaw Motorsports, GTA Racing Design, Dan McHattie Racecars, B&W Enterprises, Hoys Garage, Rainford Auto Sales, Irwin Tax, Baudo Automotive and L&H Mobile RV Repair.
“I would also like to thank my awesome crew of family and friends who help make this possible, My Dad, Dale, Sam,Catrina,Max,Graham Annis,Julie and Jason.
