INNISFIL, ON – After having made appearances at both Sunset and Peterborough in recent weeks, Super Stock veteran Dan Archibald entered Saturday’s event with his status as a Sunset Speedway regular in question.
And, despite walking out of June 24th action with a Sunset feature win in his back pocket, Archibald remained unwilling to offer any sort of indication as to where his familiar No. 07 would call home the rest of the season.
“Wherever I feel like,” responded the Innisfil, ON racer when asked of where his team’s upcoming plans could take them.
“I’m not the same as one of these kids that have their parents or car owner telling them where they’re going to go. I can race this car anywhere I want”.
Having now secured feature victories at Peterborough and Sunset to open the first quarter of the season, it’s evident that Archibald’s confidence is now at an all-time high – and rightfully so.
“These guys should get used to seeing this car up here,” boasted Archibald upon clearing post-race inspection. “We’ve been getting better and better every week – but we’ve really hit on something now”.
“This car was a rocket tonight. Everyone in this division – no matter where they race – is going to have a problem racing against us when we’re this good”.
“This car can win at any track in the province,” added the perennial contender. “We’ve proven that at Peterborough and now we’ve reminded everyone of how good we are at Sunset. Maybe we try a new track next week. Or maybe you’ll see us right back here. You never know”.
At present, Archibald sits 2nd in the Peterborough Speedway standings – a mere 11-points back of the lead. However, when questioned on his chances of earning a first career track title, Archibald remained lukewarm to the idea of settling down at one venue as opposed to chasing victories across Ontario.
“At this point, I’m not sure if our team has much interest in racing for a championship,” offered Archibald.
“I know that Anthony [DiBello] and I can put on a show at Peterborough all year. But, I also know that our car is more than good enough to make life difficult for the guys at Sunset, too”.
“Regardless of where we race though, we’re not done winning. Every guy with a Thunder Car or Super Stock in Ontario should be worried – and you can quote me on that”.
