BRADFORD, ON – After impressing in his rookie season with the Ontario Modified Racing Season in 2017, second-generation racer Connor James will shift focus to The Nascar Limited Late Model Division for the entirety of the 2018 season.
“This is absolutely the next step for our program,” Says James. “It’s exciting. Dad and I are still working really hard to put together a few sponsorship deals to make sure that we can throw as much weight behind this season as possible – but we’re ready to take on the best and see what we can do against the best guys in the Division ”
James is hoping that the freshman effort will result in a Rookie of the Year title – but knows that the there are other tough rookies joining the division as well. It’s likely to present some of the stiffest competition that he’s faced to date.
“I have a lot of respect for the teams on the roster – because I know how good they are,” explains the Bradford, ON native. “We did a lot of racing last year, in a few different cars and series, to get us ready to take the next step. This, for me, is the next step.”
“A lot of the guys on this roster have really good equipment and a ton of experience,” continues James. “So, the way I see it, racing with them for a season is only going to make us better as a team. My goal is to win the Rookie of the Year – but if we can come away from this season as better racers then it will all have been worth it.”
In addition to the depth of talent on the Sunset roster, James is also looking forward to tackling the diverse range of multiple speedways.
“One of the best things about the racing is the fact that it goes all across Ontario,” notes the former Mini Stock standout. “We’re going to bullrings like Sauble and then big, fast tracks like Jukasa. You have to be a complete driver to be on your game every time that window net goes up at these different places.”
“I’m ready to get started,” adds the stats James, with a smile. “It’s a huge challenge for us. But we’re going to meet it head-on.”
“Autotrim.ca of Barrie knocked this bad ass throw back paint scheme of one of my dad’s out of the park” April 28th can’t come soon enough.”
