INNISFIL, ON – Former MIGHTY and Mini Stock division standout ‘Flight Time’ Chris Allard will make his Sunset Speedway NASCAR Super Stock debut this Saturday.
The Innisfil, ON native will pilot the same family-owned entry that his father Paul chauffeured in 2016 – a turn of events that have Allard more than ready for his freshman campaign.
“Man, I didn’t think I would ever even have a chance to run a Mini Stock – so I’m living the dream these days,” beams the second-generation competitor when asked his thoughts entering Saturday’s 2017 season opener.
“I grew up watching my Dad race here and all I’ve ever wanted to do is follow him,” continues Allard. “This is the kind of opportunity that I could never have imagined I’d have. I’ve been counting down the hours until the opener”
With two seasons of entry-level competition to his credit, Allard’s maturity and honesty shine through when speaking of the level of competition his team will no doubt encounter in 2017.
“I’m not sure any rookie can start in this division without feeling like they’re about to stick their arm in a hornets nest,” says the multi-time Mini Stock feature winner with a laugh.
“These teams are no joke, man. We know what we’re in for, believe me. It’s going to be all uphill, all year long, but that doesn’t bother us one bit. We’ve never been afraid of a little hard work”
And although the fan-favourite is unwilling to offer his prediction for where his No. 76 will place on Saturday, there’s no question the rising star has a distinct set of objectives he hopes to achieve throughout the coming months.
“I’m not setting any goals for how I want the results sheet to look at the end of the night,” insists Allard. “All I really care about right now is figuring this car out and having more notes at the end of the night than we had at the beginning. If we can do that every week, we’ll be in good shape.”
