CAMBRIDGE, ON – Flamboro Speedway Regular Blair Wickett has been waiting patiently for weeks on end to debut his freshly built Shaw Motorsports chassis. This Saturday, June 20th, with the speedway playing host to the first ever ‘Operation Green Flag’ event, Wickett will finally have the chance to take the reigns off of his new equipment.
“If the feelings that we got just from testing this new car are any indication, our team is going to be on another planet being able to race this Saturday,” Wickett stated. “We’ve been cooped up for months just like everyone else, man. It’s been hard, no doubt. But it’s been doubly hard because we’ve had this new car ready to go.”
“Working alongside Jason and Dale Shaw this off-season has been an unreal experience,” adds the Cambridge, ON native. “When you’re right there watching one of these cars take shape from the ground up, it helps to give you an entirely new understanding on what it takes to get the absolute most out of your equipment.”
This Saturday, Wickett will be tasked with getting as much as humanly possible out of himself and his new ride, when he comes face to face with some of the utmost best Pro Late Model competitors in Ontario.
“I was talking to some of our guys in the shop this weekend and we were saying this race might be even tougher than the APC (United Late Model) Series events,” offers Wickett. “You have all of these top-tier teams and none of them have been able to race at all yet. We all have cabin fever like crazy and we’re all ready to come out and try to win this deal. It’s not going to be an easy day at the office, that’s for sure.”
However, despite the talent-heavy entry list set to battle for Saturday’s $2000-to-win prize, Wickett maintains that his team is unntimidated to compete against Ontario’s best.
“I believe that we have the car and the support to compete with whatever teams show up,” says Wickett. “I can’t wait to see how we stack up against guys like Brandon Watson and JR Fitzpatrick and DJ Kennington.”
“If you’re trying to be the best in the division – and that’s what we’re out here shooting for – then you have to know how to outrace the top guys. Saturday is our chance to do that.”
