WOODVILLE, ON – 2017 Peterborough Speedway championship hopeful Anthony DiBello will look to take the next step towards a third career Thunder Car title this Saturday, as he returns to action with a 50-plus points lead with only three events remaining.
“No matter what the numbers say – the level of dedication that we’re expecting out of our team isn’t going to change over these next three weeks,” explains DiBello.
“It’s an awesome feeling to be leading the points, but we’re still a long way from that championship being decided. We just have to keep our heads down and keep working.”
After departing Peterborough for Sunset Speedway in 2016, DiBello has been a frequent visitor to victory lane and has controlled the standings for much of the 2017 campaign with little opposition.
“We came home to Peterborough because we knew that our team was strong enough to set the standard for this division,” notes the 2-time Thunder Car champion.
“I love racing here,” continues DiBello. “It’s close to home. It’s close to our sponsors and – most importantly – it’s close to our family and friends. If I can win another championship in front of them that would be amazing.”
While DiBello appears to be very much in the driver’s seat headed towards a third championship in four years, the second-generation star would much rather clinch his title in the most dominant fashion possible.
“I just want to come out and win all three of these features so I don’t have to worry about the points,” laughs DiBello. “I figured that’s probably the easiest way to lock up the championship without having to pull out the calculator. If we can win every night that we’ve got left – then the math takes care of itself. So, that’s our goal.”
