SAUBLE BEACH, ON – 2016 APC United Late Model Series champion Andrew Gresel will be back with the cross-province Pro Late Model tour this year. The accomplished veteran will return with the same crew and equipment that carried him to a career season just two years ago, amassing a number of event victories en route to the series championship.
“Every time the calendar turns over it’s like hitting the ‘reset’ button,” says Gresel. “No matter how good we’ve been on this tour in the past, we’re hungry to get back to work. We’re coming out loaded to take a run at another championship.”
“Our team has always had high expectations for ourselves. With all the work and research we put into this team, we want to make sure we get the absolute most out of our program.”
After making the decision to switch focus from his championship-caliber Super Late Model outfit to his burgeoning Pro Late Model package in 2015, Gresel hasn’t looked back. The Sauble Beach, ON racer worked quickly to establish himself as one of the perennial contenders on tour – regardless of what facility he unloads at.
“This Pro Late Model deal of ours has gotten stronger every year,” details the multi-time winner. “We’ve definitely gotten stronger with our on-track performances, but I’m even more proud of how much we’ve grown with our stuff off the track.”
“Our setup package is better than I could ever have imagined,” continues Gresel. “We’ve really gotten to understand our car and our equipment. Once you know the ins and outs of what works and what doesn’t – that’s when you can make sure your car is performing to the level you need it to.”
When asked his plans to secure a second championship in three seasons, Gresel explained that a successful title bid rests equally on consistent performances and equipment preservation across the tour’s 12-events.
“I think it’s real easy for guys on tour to forget how long of a schedule it actually is,” says Gresel. “A lot can go wrong between opening night and the banquet. We plan on reminding ourselves of that every week.”
“I just need to stay consistent from one week to the next and do all that I can to maximize my points intake. We’re at the stage now where we have a great package for every speedway that we unload at. Now, it’s all about qualifying well and making the right decisions at race time. If we can do that – we absolutely have a shot at another championship.”
