HARRISTON, ON – After a solid freshman campaign in 2017, third-generation racer Travis McLean is ready to kick-off his sophomore effort this Saturday during Sauble Speedway’s season opener.
“Last season was all about just feeling happy to be a part of the division – I think 2018 is going to come with a lot more pressure,” says McLean. “Sauble isn’t handing out any ‘participant’ trophies. It’s all about earning your spot in the standings. My team is building an amazing program and I just need to make sure that I’m working with them to make sure we get this car up front.”
The former Mini Stock regular showcased an unquestionable willingness to learn throughout the 2017 season, improving with each on-track performance. However, despite his successful studies last season, McLean is pushing himself for an even stronger 2018.
“It’s tough to complain when you learn as much as we did last season – but I know that there’s so much more we can get out of this car,” notes the Conn, ON racer. “Our team is as motivated and as hungry as a group of people could possibly be.”
“We want this race season to be the start of something special,” adds McLean. “We’re not aiming for anything less than the absolute best effort we could possibly give every single time we have the car on the racetrack.”
On the topic of what his family-run team is looking for on Saturday, the well-spoken teenager notes just how imperative an impressive start to the season can be for a developing racer.
“It’s so important to set the tone for your season with a good performance on Opening Night,” explains McLean. “We don’t want to get off on the wrong foot and end up chasing our tails all Summer.”
“A top-5 finish on Saturday will let us know that all of our hard work this off-season was worth something, and it’ll give me the confidence to know that I belong on track with a lot of these guys that I’ve been watching race for as long as I’ve been coming to the speedway.”
