INNISFIL, ON – Earlier this off-season, veteran Dan Archibald announced that his team would chase the inaugural OSCAAR Hot Rod Series championship in 2018. This week, Archibald doubled-down on his team’s plans, confirming that they would also compete fulltime in Sunset Speedway’s Super Stock division.
“I think there might be a few guys on that [Super Stock] roster that thought we were gone forever,” laughs Archibald. “They might be pretty disappointed to see us back on opening night. But, we’re coming back and we’re going to be there as much as we can. We’re going to win some races at Sunset this season.”
Archibald took a hiatus from weekly Sunset Speedway competition for much of the 2017 campaign, opting instead to chase points in Peterborough Speedway’s talent-rich Thunder Car division. Now – after almost an entire year away – Archibald is reinvigorated for his return.
“Our Sunset [Speedway] package is as good now as it’s ever been,” notes the Innisfil, ON racer. “Stepping away from [Sunset] last season made us a better team. We’re stronger now than we were when we left. So, we’re coming back to chase some wins.”
Archibald acquired a car formerly campaigned by division standout Johnny Morrison for his fulltime Sunset Speedway return and has plans to push for a first career Super Stock championship in addition to his Hot Rod Series commitments.
“We have a really, really good car for this season,” says Archibald. “I think our setup package with this new equipment is going to be something for these other guys to worry about.”
“If the schedule works out the way we hope it will – we’ll be able to balance the [OSCAAR] Hot Rod deal with the [Sunset Speedway] Super Stock division. I want to chase two championships – because I know I have the team that can do it.”
