“Knowing that we have a strong enough team to be in the mix every night is huge for us,” says Shaw. “We’ve walked a long road to get to this point with our team. I’ve spent a lot of days sitting around and daydreaming about our team contending for wins at Sunset. Now, all I think about is what I can to be better as a driver so we can get the wins we deserve.”
For Shaw, the hot start to the year has been as much a product of positive thinking and planning as it has been hands-on hard work in her Spira Fire Protection team’s Guelph-area raceshop.
“It feels like we’re really starting to reach our potential,” says the third-generation racer. “I visualized this start to our season all Winter. I thought about it over and over. I know how important momentum is to a race team. We knew that if we started strong we’d be able to build on it every weekend and that’s what we’ve done so far.”
The family-owned team hopes to stretch their success into the second-half of the 2018 season, as they work towards finding their ideal setup package to maximize their output on a weekly basis.
“We’re at the point now where making wholesale changes is a distant memory for us,” notes Shaw with a smile. “Every time we hit the track we’re fine-tuning things now. We’re so close to being where we know we need to – and we just need those fractions of a second to make it happen.”
“It all feels like the dream is finally starting to come true for us,” continues the fan favourite. “I know that we can keep improving if we stay the course. The sky’s the limit for us right now and I can’t wait to get back to Sunset on Saturday to see if we can’t get back on the podium.”
