BAXTER, ON – After closing out his 2017 Sunset Speedway season unsure as to wether or not his team would return at all to compete again, Super Stock staple Ryan Semple has confirmed that he will be back fulltime at Sunset in 2018.
And, not only will he be back each and every Saturday night, Semple and his Auto Trim of Barrie-supported operation are more ready than ever before to chase their first career division championship.
“The last two seasons have been all about us getting better as a team,” says Semple. “Everything we work through as a unit just makes us sharper. We’re at the point now where every single guy on this team knows exactly what his role is. If something goes wrong – we all know what needs to be done to fix it. That’s a tough combination to hold off.”
The Baxter, ON-based racer battled all season long with eventual champion Jordan Howse in 2017 – with the race for the division title culminating on the final night of competition with Semple coming up one position short of his ultimate goal.
Still, despite the disappointment, Semple credits the experience with making him a better racer and preparing him for the task at hand in 2018.
“We’ve been so close for so long – and it’s time for us to take that last step,” explains Semple. “We had a great season in 2017 and just came up a little short. But, chasing points that deep into the schedule taught us so much. That was an experience unlike anything I’ve had as a racer and it’s only made us better as a team.”
And, as the fan favourite prepares for another season spent campaigning against some of the top Super Stock talent in the province – Semple offers a promise that indicates just how ready he is.
“I can guarantee that our team will be in the running for the championship,” insists Semple. “We work better as a team now than we ever have. Our equipment has never been stronger. We’ve done our research. We’re ready – I promise that. With a little bit of luck, these teams are going to be chasing us all season.”
