Rick Walt Continues Sunset Speedway Success with Feature Victory Number Four

Rick Walt Feature Winner 2017 at Sunset Speedway
ORO MEDONTE, ON – 2017 NASCAR Late Model championship hopeful Rick Walt added another tally to his feature win totals on Saturday – further solidifying his Eldon Wallis-owned team’s position as a certified threat to a first ever Sunset Speedway title.

‘’This team hasn’t lost a step all season – all we’ve done is get better and better,’’ quipped Walt post-race. ‘’This car feels great right now and I still feel like we have a few notches left. We haven’t maxed this thing out yet”.

“There’s a little more work to be done. There’s a few more shop nights to get this exactly where we want it. We’re happy with how we’re performing right now, but we can still turn it on even more. We’re not done improving”.

With the season having eclipsed its halfway mark a week ago, Walt knows the margin for error thins each week for any team aiming to close-in on the division’s championship.

‘’We’re hitting the part of any points run where the herd starts to get thinned out,’’ explained the 2016 Peterborough Speedway champion. “Things are still pretty tight at the top of the standings but one bad night at this part of the schedule can pretty much end your chances at a championship. Every night is real crucial from here until the end”.

“We have to make sure we’re putting together our best performances every time we’re on track. We have to keep grinding it out and finding a way to finish up front every Saturday”.

‘The Upgrade’ entered Saturday’s event 4th in the Late Model standings – 45-points out of 1st. And, with just over a handful of race nights remaining, is in dire need of closing that gap before September 16th’s championship coronation.

‘’The teams in this division are no joke,’’ said Walt. ‘’They don’t give you any inches out there. I’ve raced for championships in every division I’ve ever been in and I think this group has pushed me more than anyone else. It’s impossible not to have respect for that”.

“I know that every time I slap a pit pass on my wrist that I had better be at my best. We’ve got six nights left to run for this title and we’re going to make sure we bring the heat right until the end”.
