Reality of First Career Championship Still Setting in for Sauble Speedway’s Zack Casemore

Zack Casemore 2017

SAUBLE BEACH, ON – Likeable Thunder Car standout Zack Casemore is only days removed from clinching the 2017 Sauble Speedway points championship. The honour – the first of Casemore’s racing tenure – has not yet fully registered with the fan favourite. Though Casemore makes it abundantly clear the title is a career highlight for the Sauble Beach, ON driver.

“Pulling down the window net and stepping out of the car on Saturday after the feature just may have been the most gratifying moment of my career,” says Casemore.

“This team has put so much effort into this season – to have it come back to us like this is an incredible feeling. I wanted this so badly. Our whole family did. I’m so grateful to be standing here a champion.”

The 2017 track championship was the result of a season-long battle with fellow standout Jake Zevenbergen that saw the pair running at the front of the field on a weekly basis as part of one of the most captivating points races in recent division history.

“I really enjoy racing Jake [Zevenbergen],” says the rising star. “I grew up at Sauble watching veteran guys like Todd Davenport and Joe Adams go back-and-forth season after season trading wins. They carved out legacies for themselves. It would be a huge honour for guys like Jake and I to do that in the modern era.”

And although the memory of his championship clinching performance on September 2nd is still fresh in his memory, Casemore is still working to process his newfound status.

“I’m still not sure what to say – I think it’s going to be a while before I really have a grasp on it,” admits the soft-spoken youngster. “You put years of your life into this sport. All you ever think about is winning the championship – but you never really understand how good it feels to get the job done.”

“We haven’t even sat down to talk about [2018] yet – but I know that I would love to come back and defend,” continues Casemore. “It’s hard enough to win one of these championships, so I can only imagine what it would be like to win back-to-back. But, we’re ready for that challenge.”
